The multi-grade filters and activated carbon filters are commonly used filters in a water filtration unit that removes suspended impurities and particles and other contaminants from the water. Multi-grade filters (MGF) and activated carbon filters (ACF) are generally used. In the fabrication, different types of materials may be used: FRP, mild steel, or stainless steel.
A multi-grade filter consists of multiple layers of filter media such as sand, gravel, and anthracite. In it, there are various contaminations and particle ranges that could be removed and hence is also utilized in a wide range of pre-treatment processes for RO systems, feedwater to boilers, and swimming pools’ filtration purposes. MGF units can be produced in FRP, MS, and SS according to application requirements and expected conditions of the plant.
Activated carbon filters (ACF) utilise activated carbon, which removes impurities and contaminants from water. Activated carbon possesses a highly porous surface, hence it has a high possibility of adsorption with a range of pollutants in water, from organic compounds and chemicals. In addition, ACF units are normally applied in the drinking water treatment process, waste-water treatment processes, and some industrial processes. Also, it is possible to manufacture ACF units in FRP, MS, and SS according to specific application and preferred conditions of operating.
FRP is probably the most common material used for water filtration units because it offers high resistance to corrosion, durability, and less maintenance. FRP units are also relatively lightweight, easy to install, and resistant to harsh environmental conditions. MS and SS are also used for water filtration units, depending on the application and the desired conditions.
To summarize, among all the necessary components in water treatment, water filtration units are one of the must-haves. The two common multi-grade filters (MGF) and activated carbon filters (ACF) are often used in these units. These can be made from various different materials according to the purpose and operating conditions: FRP, MS, and SS material. The appropriate choice of material for a water filtration unit depends on factors like durability and resistance to corrosion as well as its maintenance requirements.
